We are EXPERTS in Computer Repair and Upgrade - ft. iMac upgrade project

Ever had a computer that felt slow? At HiTech Handymen, we specialize in getting your computers as fast as they can be. And one of the best ways we can help is turn that aging computer with that spinning hard drive (yes, that's why we call them hard drives) into mean, lean computing machines. You see, whenever you access a program or app on the computer (for all operating systems) - the computer has to load the program information from the storage drive - that is, your permanent storage, not to be confused with "memory" or RAM - which is temporary.  But when your storage drive relies on magnetic arms to retrieve bits of data from a spinning disk - this process is very slow - no matter how fast everything else in your computer is. You can have the most expensive and fastest processor and everything else but still have a "slow" computer if it has a hard drive. Which is why most commodity laptops and even computers over $1000 have them - they provide large amounts…

No Phone is Truly Waterproof - Difference between "Waterproof" and Water Resistance

As most people can guess, water and electronics are not usually good combinations as water will corrode or short out important circuits on an electronic device. Recently, with companies like Samsung introducing water-resistant and water-"proof" phones, we can see a new generation of people not freaking out when a little bit of water gets splashed unto their phones. However, alot of people still make the mistake of assuming that these smartphones can survive a swim in the pool - which is not the capability of most smartphones with rated with the IP standard (dust and water resistant rating). Almost all phones today rated with the IP standard are completely dust resistant though so you can rest easy knowing that dust bunnies won't kill your smartphone. As it stands, there are no currently no iPhones that are even advertised as even waterproof. As a matter of fact, even the Android phones that market themselves as being waterproof cannot handle being submerged in a pool of…

How Tempered Glass Screen Protectors can save your Screen!

As I'm sure you've heard, having tempered glass is one of the best ways to protect your phone - it is a layer of hardened glass pasted on top of your smartphone screen. Back in the days, people used to use plastic tempered glass that provide scratch protection but doesn't offer drop protection - this was largely because screens back then were much smaller and had less surface area for the glass to break. But as phones get increasingly larger screens, we are forced to contend with the prospect of broken screens. That is where tempered glass screens come into play - they are arguably more important than a good case in protecting the most important component of your smartphone - the screen.
A normal sheet of glass would break and shatter on any impact - and may actually case damage to the actual glass on smartphones - so these adhesive glass must be tempered, or strengthened to toughen them up - this will then provide the actual drop protection benefit. Because it's ano…

What is the Difference Between Cracked Glass and LCD Repair?

For most types of phone repairs, there is no distinction between an cracked glass and LCD repair. This misconception among customers is largely due to what they perceive as a procedure that involves the complex removal of broken glass from the LCD and replacing it with a new glass. However, that procedure does exist, just not in the form that we typically service your broken screens.            You see, thanks to our handy manufacturers, we are able to receive complete screen assemblies for most devices! That cuts out a lot of tedious work! For example, for all intents and purposes the repair procedure for iPhones is exactly the same but the pricing is different. Why is that?  You see, a glass repair is always cheaper because the underlying LCD (the valuable part) is untouched and working. In that case, the glass layer is the only part broken. The criteria for LCD repair versus glass only repair is that all touch works and no visible screen deformity is observed in an glass repa…

Understanding iPhone Home Buttons

Today, i'd like to discuss the sometimes confusing intricacies of various iPhone home buttons. Since the inception of the iPhone in 2007, Apple has made various innovations when it comes to the signature way to go back with their iPhones - the home button that brings you back no matter where you are. In particular, we can see two points of evolution in iPhone buttons; with the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 7. To simply state, all iPhones after iPhone 5S sport a TouchID sensor into it's button. Any previous model iPhones before iPhone 5S (includes 5C) can have their home buttons replaced with full functionality. However, starting from the iPhone 5S, the inclusion of the TouchID sensor means that any replacement buttons by anybody not named Apple will lose the TouchID functionality. However, the home button itself will work. A notable exception to this where the second point of evolution begins with the introduction of the iPhone 7 series, where the "button" itself is…
